As mentioned in my April blog, as Keiko and I learn more about the business side of art, I’ll share what we’ve been learning. Well, I haven’t learned a whole lot about the business aspects of art per se, but have been running across all the sorts of interesting people who inhabit the world of art—at least the world of “2-d” art.

The list of Art World denizens that follows may not be all inclusive. If people or functions are missing, please let me know and I will happily add them. As for the list, I must be part scientist because I always have this urge to “organize” or group things. The list itself has an order of sorts, starting with the “Artist.” And it’s broken into three larger groupings: 1) Creators <of Art>, 2) Purveyors, and 3) The VIP & its Necessary-Evil Twin.

Beginning with those most involved with the creation of art:

ARTIST

The person creating the art, whether it be a painting, sculpture, ceramic piece, photograph, or everything else that falls under the Art umbrella

Suppliers

As soon as artists are ready to create, they need companies and people to provide them with supplies and equipment

Teachers of Art

Armed with desire and supplies, artists may need a bit of help on getting started. That’s where instructors come in: everybody who teaches art and its techniques.

Art-related Organizations

Now that artists are beavering away at their creations, they may need some camaraderie. People who are experiencing the same sorts of things that artists go through; perhaps evolving into a kind of support group. These organizations include groupings of artists, mostly staffed by volunteers.

Wow! It’s a veritable Garden of Eden out there!
