Art communicates emotions

Things Japanese

My Japanese heritage is the inspiration behind some of my paintings.  When I see or find something that epitomizes the sense of being Japanese, or reflects the essence of Japanese culture or history, I will create an art piece.  The subject and my feelings about it dictate the media, whether it be water-color, lithograph, acrylic, whatever.

Kokeshi

I painted this from a kokeshi doll we have as a souvenir from Japan.  I embedded, or “under-laid” intricate patterns that you might find on elegant kimono.

Mixed media: acrylic and paper with patterns.
